Picked up a pair of Bell Mag 9 helmets (not the new Sena model) to replace our HJC FS-3's. The main issue with the HJC's was they were a little on the heavy side and that can be an issue on long hauls. After coming across the Mag 9 helmets and doing a bit of research, thought I'd give them a whirl. The two big selling points for me were the lighter weight and the drop down visor.
I LOVE the drop down visor in my full face Nolan helmet, so this was a big one for me. The microfiber inner lining/pads are nice and soft. Fit is good (I wear a large, the wife a medium) and sizing seems pretty consistent as I wear a large in Nolan, Scorpion and HJC. I have not tried any of the different visor/shield/peak configurations yet, but plan to just to see how they 'feel'.
So far, with limited ride time, I like it. It's lighter that the HJC and the shape of the helmet has eliminated the 'wind in the sails' feel you sometimes get when turning your head to the side at highway speeds. Venting (teo large vents on the crown and 4 exhaust vents out back) was another thing that was reviewed well, but with the fantastic wind protection the CCT provides, it's hard to judge how effective it is, so I can't really comment on that aspect.
The drop down visor (of which not everyone is a fan of) works great. The lever used to engage the spring loaded visor mechanism has a positive (if not slightly stiff) feel. I still prefer the slide mechanism of the Nolan as it requires no effort.
Coverage for the visor is above average compared to other helmets I've looked at. A lot of them have short visors that put the lower edge right in your main field of vision, not so with the Bell (at least for me). So, all in all I am very satisfied with the switch and highly recommend this helmet.
One thing to note, this is the 2012 model that DOES NOT have the built in SENA Bluetooth pocket built into the helmet. It does, however, have the speaker pockets built into the EPS liner. The 2013 version, called the Mag 9 Sena is the one to get if you plan to use that particular bluetooth setup.

The 2012's can be had for as little as $85 (what I paid) but sizes large and up are getting scarce. The NEW 2013 Mag 9 Sena will run you $179. I wear one at work and lets just say, I'm glad you like it. While the drop down shield is a good idea, in practice, rain will run down from the top of the helmet and onto the inside of the shield in about 5 miles of riding in a steady storm. All of our guys who are using this model have the problem. We still have guys in the Mag 8 and that seems to do OK, so I don't know why this particular helmet has that issue. Could be the vents on top that trap water.
I do like the Tom Cruise tinted visor. The fit of the helmet is a bit weird. If my head were about two inches taller or I had a cone head, it would fit very well. As it is, in an XL, the fit around my head is pretty good but the helmet is way too deep. I have to be very careful in choosing which sunglasses I ride with otherwise they hit the front of the helmet and push them down on my nose. I picked one of those up a few months back for a a bargain basement price and it's a decent helmet, but won't be my primary helmet.
In the winter I use a SHOEI Quest full face and recently bought a Shark Evoline modular helmet for the warmer weather. It's great so far, but the temps haven't gotten much above 80 yet. I'm hoping it will be manageable in the summer, otherwise I'll have to go back to a half helmet for the dog days of summer.I was trying on helmets the other day. I've typically used Shoei RFxxxs over the years, but I've had an assortment of open face models too.
Currently, unless it's cold I wear one the Shoei Jwing open facers. Anyway, as I was saying, I tried on several hats from $90 HJCs (which felt like a $90 hat) to the new Qwest.
That Qwest was like sex it felt so good. I tried on a new RF1100 next to it just for confirmation and yep, it still felt considerably plusher than what I've considered the gold standard what seems like forever.
